Husk Savannah

In 2018, I had the honor of being commissioned by Husk Restaurant in Savannah, Georgia, to create a series of paintings that capture the essence of three pivotal figures in the founding of Savannah. This artistic endeavor aimed to celebrate the rich history and cultural heritage of the city through the portrayal of James Edward Oglethorpe, Mary Musgrove, and Tomochichi.

James Edward Oglethorpe, a British colonist, and Tomochichi, a Savannah native and leader of the Yamacraw, played crucial roles in the establishment of Savannah and the creation of the Georgia Colony. Their unique partnership laid the foundation for the city's growth and development. Mary Musgrove, with her dual heritage of Yamacraw and English ancestry, served as a vital communicator between Oglethorpe and Tomochichi, facilitating their alliance and contributing significantly to the founding of Savannah.

This series of paintings, now proudly displayed at Husk Savannah, not only highlights these historical figures but also underscores the importance of cooperation and cultural exchange in the early days of the colony. Each piece in the collection is a tribute to the legacy of these remarkable individuals and their enduring impact on Savannah.

Visit Husk Savannah to experience this unique blend of art and history, and to immerse yourself in the stories of the people who shaped the city we know today.
